We live in a free society. That means we sometimes let people do things we know are bad for them – and that's a good thing. Government simply should not be in the business of regulating every aspect of our lives.

But just when did we decide that government should become a predator exploiting our appetites and weaknesses to get more money?

Government isn't just another business seeking profits. It is designed to serve the common good. Even if we as a society decide that it is appropriate to allow limited forms of gambling, does it really make sense to have the government in the business of running casinos?
